“If we’re going to keep the world fed in the future, it’s not going to be on steaks. We have to eat lower on the food chain.”—Yvon Chouinard

Through our granting program, we’ve supported the Washington State University Bread Lab and their efforts to identify buckwheat with superior flavor and nutrition that performs well for farmers. We’re also working with a handful of like-minded farmers to develop and grow more nutritious, environmentally friendly grain-based meals. Whole grains contain everything a plant needs to start growing, making them a great food source for humans as well.

Crops like the organic buckwheat we’re using in our hot cereal mixes are easier on the planet because they’re grown with natural fertilizers and no chemical pesticides.

As agriculture transitions to full organic regenerative practices, these crops will require less water than conventionally grown grains, and actually help rebuild healthy topsoil. Better yet, organic whole grains and buckwheat also happen to taste delicious. Especially since we sweeten ours only with the bright flavors of ripe fruit.

Check out our collection of Organic Breakfast Grains and find out how easy it is to start your day eating lower on the food chain.
